Abstract

Applied linguistics is an applied science in the first place, as it is a science that applies theoretical statements to a number of linguistic and non-linguistic sciences, and subjects them to testing through practical reality, and therefore the evelopment of curricula for teaching foreign languages ​​depends heavily on the data of applied linguistics. This study comes to one of the foreign language teaching curricula in our country, Libya, which is the English language book for the first grade of basic ducation, with the aim of standing on the impact of applied linguistics in it, and showing the extent to which its data and results are employed in achieving the goals in order to develop the curriculum for it, which can be shortened in acquiring a second language.  The research came in two sections: the first: a theoretical one that deals with theoretical general applied linguistics issues, and the second topic: a practical and applied one on the English language book prescribed for the first grade of basic education, an analytical study of its knowledge content from the point of view of applied linguistics, and the research reached a set of results, including Applied linguistics is a multidisciplinary one that starts from language to invest the results of other sciences in developing and analyzing language and addressing its applied problems. The impact is evident in the English language textbook to be taught to the first grade of basic education in Libya. The cognitive content in the book is consistent with the data of applied linguistics, so that this approach is an example of an educational approach that leads to achieving the desired goals and objectives of teaching the English language if its methodology is applied correctly.
