Abstract

This study aims, mainly, to answer a central question, is the migration of descriptive theory from the Greeks to the Arabs and the horizons of reading, a research determined by three main areas, the first of which focuses on description as a pattern of literary discourse originated when the Greeks and traveled through translation to the Arabs / and the second is related to the results of the theoretical migration of the description from its Greek environment to the Arab heritage and the third in saying the Arab descriptive theory. The importance of the study lies in what it may provide the researcher with broad horizons for research into the travel of critical theories in the East and the West, which opens the doors to delve into some studies related to description and the problems it raises. It is a study whose novelty we appreciate because it is linked to more than one origin of human knowledge and to more than one branch of it, which prompts us to consider its structure, as it is in criticism and in the history of criticism, and it is in philosophy, and it has complex and intricate connections with modern linguistic and structural Mystics approaches. The study is linked to a major problem: How did the Arabs receive the Western descriptive theory and what are the prospects of their reading of it? From this central problem other problems arose, including: What is the status of description in Arab creativity and criticism, ancient and modern? How did the concept of description develop and what is its relationship to imitation and simile? What is the relationship of Arab criticism to the Greek theory of imitation in dealing with the descriptive phenomenon, critically and creatively? Did Arab criticism end up establishing a theory of description that has its distinctive characteristics: in the systems of its functions and the dimensions of its meanings?
