A vision to create a digital repository for the Libyan Academy.

Abstract

It is no longer a secret to anyone that digital institutional repositories are gaining great importance, given the capabilities they provide to disseminate the digital content of the institution’s employees, as it is a new channel created by Internet technology and the successive developments of web generations. It is one of the strategies of the free access movement to make information available and liberate it from the restrictions imposed on it.It is of great importance, especially since it was in universities and research centers, because of the possibilities it provides for preserving and making available the intellectual production of faculty and researchers as digital information content, and the opportunities it provides for exchanging information and experiences and contributing to the process of developing educational programs and course content at the national and international levels.It is worth noting that digital repositories are among the most important standards for evaluating quality and ranking the efficiency of academic and research institutions in the world. In this regard, scientific research, meaning intellectual production, is considered an important tributary to those institutions as a pillar of development and progress on the one hand, and as a source of consolidating the concepts and principles of the knowledge economy in society on the other hand.Therefore, the objectives of this research paper revolve mainly around: studying and extrapolating the role of digital repositories in supporting the achievement of the mission of university and academic institutions, and then devising and reviewing the requirements and components of the availability of digital repositories with informational content that serve the goals of higher education and scientific research.For universities as intellectual academic institutions in society, in order to reach the milestones of establishing a digital repository in the Libyan Academy.
