The accession of King Clovis (481-511) to the throne of the Frankish Kingdom in 481 is considered a turning point in the history of the Frankish Kingdom, as King Clovis established an actual kingdom for the Franks. He is considered the true founder of the Merovingian Frankish kingdom. He could eliminate Syagrius, the Roman ruler of Gaul, in 486. He was also able to subjugate the Thuringians in 491. He also brought the Alemanni under his control in 496. Clovis defeated the Visigoths in the Battle of Volais in 507 and took control of their lands in Gaul. King Clovis also united the Frankish tribes under his control
