Abstract

This article deals with the problem of internal migrations coming to the city of Nouakchott and their impact on urban development efforts, due to the spatial, economic and social imbalances they caused, as these migrations made the capital one of the fastest demographically growing capitals of Northwest Africa when its population moved from about 5,800 people in 1960 to 1.3 million people in 2022, and aims to know the repercussions of these migrations on the population and services in the city.

The study revealed the rapid growth of the city's population due to internal migrations, which posed and poses many challenges to urban development, which is clearly reflected in the reality of infrastructure and the reality of services in it, whether it is related to the quality or quantity of available ones.
