Tolerance / intolerance of ambiguity and its relationship to stiffness / flexibility At Tobruk University students

Abstract

The concept of ambiguity intolerance, as proposed by Frenkel Brunschvik (1948), is that individuals with a high degree of intolerance to ambiguity are characterized by a preference for familiarity, symmetry, regularity, and a tendency toward firm solutions that choose between black and white. In this study, tolerance of ambiguity is the person's ability to perform his functions rationally and calmly in a situation in which the interpretation of all the warnings is not completely clear, as the current study targeted a set of objectives, namely: Detection of the prevalence of tolerance and intolerance of ambiguity in the study sample Detection of the spread of stiffness / flexibility in the study sampl. Identify the differences between males and females and specialize on literary ambiguity tolerance / intolerance. Identify the differences between males and females and specialization in literary science in stiffness / flexibility. The research sample consisted of (125) male and female students distributed according to gender and specialization. The Muhammad Abdel Tawab Moawad 2005 standardized scale on the Egyptian and Saudi environment was used, and the Abdel Ghafour scale in 1986 to measure stiffness / flexibility. The results of the study showed the following: The study sample has a high degree of tolerance of ambiguity. The study sample also has a degree of flexibility and it is a non-rigid sample. There are statistically significant differences according to male / female gender in favor of males in tolerance of ambiguity intolerance. There are statistically significant differences in stiffness according to male / female gender in favor of females, meaning that females are more intransigent than males. There are statistically significant differences in tolerating ambiguity according to specialization in favor of literary major students, meaning that they are more tolerant of ambiguity. There are statistically significant differences in stiffness / flexibility according to the major for the benefit of students with scientific specialization, that is, they are more rigid than students of literary specialization
