Psychological dimensions in prison literature

Abstract

Prison literature is a literary genre that describes literature written when the writer is restricted in a place against his will, such as prison and house arrest. The literature can be about prison, or about a period before it, or written during the writer’s stay in prison, and it can either be memoirs, stories, or pure fiction.
The abundance of literature that has been produced, which is called (prison literature), has become a phenomenon that requires attention and critical research into its content, language, and implications.One of the things that prison literature focuses on is glorifying suffering and singing the image of the hero who suffered greatly from the ravages of prison, including torture and restrictions on freedoms. In the recent past, this phenomenon has become a reason for this literature to be transformed into a human rights document.
    This paper studies the psychological and emotional dimensions in prison literature, meaning the writer’s feelings.Which is considered an essential source of poetic creativity, and raises some questions:
1- Is the relationship between the prisoner and the jailer one of alienation or not?
2- Has prison literature succeeded in becoming a case with its own uniqueness from other poetic phenomena?
3- Is oppression by the jailer an individual case or a general phenomenon of the jailer’s name?The paper is based on several axes, the most important of which are:
 First: Prison literature and the prisoner-jailer relationship.
 Second: The psychological dimensions in prison literature: suffering and oppression.
Third: Examples of the psychological and emotional dimension in prison literature.
