Abstract

Media psychology in dealing with issues of persons with disabilities

The aim of this research is to identify the psychology of the media in dealing with people with disabilities, and also to identify and monitor the image of people with disabilities in the media, and to monitor and determine the role of the media in dealing with issues of people with disabilities, as well as to identify the needs of people with disabilities from the media, and to identify the role of the media in Adopting a clear vision to help people with disabilities, Where the research problem was limited to "what is the psychology of the media in dealing with issues of persons with disabilities", and to achieve the objectives of the research, the descriptive analytical approach and the sample survey method were used, using the questionnaire tool and through a sample of (families with disabilities) whose strength was (50), This was done through centers for people with disabilities in Tobruk, The researcher reached the following results and recommendations:

First, the results:

1. It was found through field research and through the preliminary data of the research sample on the variable (gender) that males came in the first place with a percentage of (70%), and in the second place came females with a percentage of (30%).
2. It was also found through the preliminary data on the variable (age) that it came (less than 5 years) in the first place with a percentage of (56%). And in the last place it came (from 15 to 25 years) with a percentage of (14%).
3. It was also found through field research on the variable (type of disability) that (mental disability) came in the first place with a percentage of (44%), and in the last came (visual disability) with a percentage of (4%).
4. Regarding the variable (the cause of disability), the field research came to prove that in the first rank came (hereditary) with a percentage of (62%), while it came in the second rank (environmental) with a percentage of (38%).
5. It became clear through the answers of the research sample about (the cause of disability), where it came in the first order (hereditary from the father and mother) with a percentage of (72%), and in the last it came in terms of (the mother only) with a percentage of (12%).

Second: Recommendations:

1. It is necessary to intensify media efforts to raise awareness of the community and the importance of its role in caring for people with disabilities.
2. Working to highlight the capabilities of people with disabilities by participating in some talk shows on satellite channels.
3. Working on making use of social networks in spreading awareness of the issues of people with disabilities.
4. Urging the media to know the differences between disabilities so as not to confuse people with disabilities.
5. Working on presenting programs through the media fabric to guide and direct the family to help it in early detection of disability in its children and to satisfy the family's needs in caring for its child seriously and appropriately.
