Abstract

Congenital onychocryptosis is a rare condition affecting the soft tissue around the big toe. It has only been occasionally discussed in medical literature. The condition is widely thought to result from either trauma during pregnancy or hereditary factors. A genetic predisposition has been observed, and some familial cases have been reported. Several types of ingrown toenails can appear during infancy, including congenital malalignment of the great toenails, distal-lateral nail embedding, thickening of the nail folds, and excessive curvature of the nail plate.
